Hotchkiss Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Inc. is a small business located in Fairfield, Connecticut. Founded in 1975 and incorporated in 1978 by Mr. Robert E. Hotchkiss, the company designs, installs and services the refrigeration needs for all of Connecticut and the Northeast region. The company has been a proven leader in the design of cooling systems for industrial processes and commercial/domestic applications throughout the years. Hotchkiss Refrigeration has fabricated refrigeration systems with cooling capacities up to 500 tons. As highly skilled and experienced artisans in industrial cooling, Hotchkiss Refrigeration has developed and maintained refrigeration and air conditioning systems at the highest level of competency and integrity for its customers. Our diverse customer base in various manufacturing sectors including automotive, aerospace, communications, polymer spinning, elastomer molding as well as in food processing and storage, and our air conditioning systems in commercial buildings such as libraries, schools, offices, etc. and home central cooling systems is a testament to our flexibility, customer base and trust Hotchkiss Refrigeration has established over the years with our customers.

Mr. Robert E. Hotchkiss, CEO and President, started in the refrigeration industry in 1970 working for the Connecticut Ice Machine Company (Norwalk, CT) as a refrigeration technician, but quickly was promoted to Office and Service Manager. The Connecticut Ice Machine Company, at the time, was one of the largest and oldest industrial refrigeration companies in the Northeast.

Mr. Hotchkiss attended Norwalk Community College and Sacred Heart University, majoring in Business Administration. He combined his experience and knowledge as an air conditioning technician with his business school training to establish Hotchkiss Refrigeration. His business foresight and technical ingenuity in refrigeration systems allowed him to perform many innovative design projects in the refrigeration industry for industrial cooling problems and the food processing industry. In the 1980s Mr. Hotchkiss designed and built a large dehydrating plant used to dry cod fish in the state of Maine. At the time, this was the only refrigeration system of its kind and set the standard for many years.

Having a love for design and building led Mr. Hotchkiss to endeavors in the development of condominiums and warehouse cold storage facilities. A unique challenge presented itself for the design and construction of a villa on the island of Sint Maarten (Dutch spelling) in the Netherlands Antilles. These experiences and other proprietary designs in the industrial manufacturing sector have lead to the innovative, creative and “outside-the-box” style of thinking customers have come to enjoy and expect from Hotchkiss Refrigeration and which has enabled our company to become a leader in cold storage systems.

Temperature Controlled Warehouses:

• We can design and install from the ground up any type or size of temperature controlled warehouse, building, storage shed or room.
• We can furnish highly efficient, energy saving custom manufactured thermal panels to build a refrigerated building from the ground up, or turn any existing building into an energy saving temperature controlled warehouse.
• We can build refrigerated rooms with any desired color, synthetic stucco type cement finishes with LinexTM custom color or hard coated finishes. This would include custom floor aggregate finishes that will last virtually forever.
• We can deliver a “turnkey” storage or process system furnishing every aspect of the job including all site work, all building, refrigeration design and installation and electrical and lighting systems.
• We can integrate all systems to be controlled by a central energy management system that can be accessed off site as well as on site.
